Toroidal chokes

With InduComp’s toroidal chokes, you receive a high-quality product tailored to your company’s needs. We are flexible with our customers, handling production from smaller to larger quantities. We have extensive experience in designing and manufacturing toroidal chokes that always meet the expected technical parameters.

Characteristics of toroidal chokes

Toroidal chokes are inductors that use a circular, ring-shaped (toroidal) ferromagnetic or ferrite core on which conductive wire is wound. The term “toroidal” itself refers to the ring or donut-shaped geometry. Inductive components (often also called “chokes”) are passive basic elements of electrical circuits, along with capacitors and ohmic resistors. They can temporarily store energy in the magnetic field and thus serve a smoothing function in alternating currents. The physical foundation for designing and calculating inductors is provided by Gauss’s law (Maxwell’s equations), Ampere’s law, and Ohm’s law. Inductance can be described as the ratio of the linked flux to the current creating the flux. The name “choke” may come from the fact that, depending on the frequency of the alternating current, the choke inductor “chokes” because it presents complex resistance to high-frequency currents. There is a wide range of core materials and core designs available for designing and calculating chokes, such as:

– Ferrite cores with air gaps (the magnetic energy is mainly stored in the air gap)

– Toroidal cores or E-cores

– Made of 6% FeSi (commercial names: Fluxsan, XFlux PowerFlux)

– Alloys made of Sendust, KoolMu, or Molypermalloy MPP, and Hi-Flux or Optilloy

– Inexpensive materials like iron powder with varying permeability are also available.

Industrial Usability

Toroidal chokes are useful in numerous electrical and electronic applications by taking advantage of the toroidal shape. They prove useful in electronic power supplies to increase efficiency. They are ideal for RF filters and baluns (balanced-unbalanced converters) due to their good frequency properties and low leakage losses. In audiophile equipment, toroidal chokes can help reduce noise and ensure clear sound. Toroidal chokes used in inductive charging stations improve energy transmission efficiency in wireless charging applications.
